Olavo Abreu is a world-renowned instructor and one of the leading figures in the global expansion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Representing the traditional “old school” lineage while actively shaping the modern era of the sport, he brings decades of high-level experience both as a competitor and coach.
Experience & Background
A black belt under the legendary Carlson Gracie Sr., Olavo developed his foundation within one of the most respected and dominant lineages in the history of Jiu-Jitsu. His style reflects the essence of this system: pressure, control, efficiency, and relentless forward movement.
Over the years, he has played a key role in the international growth of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, working with elite athletes and organizations around the world.
Professional Career
Olavo Abreu was also a key figure at Brazilian Top Team, where he served as the head coach responsible for the professional Jiu-Jitsu program during one of the most competitive and influential eras in the history of the sport.
He later went on to work as Head Coach and instructor in some of the most prestigious training environments globally, including:
• Phuket Top Team (Thailand)
• National Jiu-Jitsu Program – United Arab Emirates

Founder & Global Expansion
Olavo Abreu is the founder of Born To Roll, an international Jiu-Jitsu association that has been rapidly expanding across the globe.
Today, the association includes more than 20 affiliated academies, with presence in:

His current focus is on expanding this global network, connecting practitioners worldwide through high-level training, shared values, and the true spirit of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Philosophy

João Assis
4th-degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
João Assis is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, combining elite competition achievements with decades of teaching and international experience.

With over 30 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, João built his career through consistent dedication to high-level training and competition.
He has spent more than two decades living and training in California, where he established himself as a leading figure in the international Jiu-Jitsu community.

Celso began his journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1998 in Petrópolis, Brazil. Early in his career, he made the decision to pursue the sport professionally, moving to Rio de Janeiro to train at Brazilian Top Team during one of the most competitive eras of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.
Within this high-level environment, he developed his technical foundation and trained alongside some of the biggest names in the sport, shaping his approach to both competition and teaching.
During this period, he trained under Olavo Abreu, who was responsible for leading the Jiu-Jitsu program of the team during its golden era — an experience that played a key role in his development and long-term connection within the sport.
